What the Rise of the Metaverse Means for Education – with Vriti Saraf
Our guest today is Vriti Saraf. She is the CEO & founder of k20 Educators, a design studio that builds Metaverse spaces for learning. She is also a co-founder of the first decentralized autonomous non-profit organization for educators, by educators, called Ed3 DAO. Both organizations aim to reimagine education. Vriti has served as a teacher, a professor, a dean, & a director in public, private, & charter schools both locally & internationally across k12 & higher education.
Are you curious about how technology can change the way we learn and teach? In this episode, Joeri and Vriti Saraf explored the potential of the Metaverse in education.
So, what exactly is the Metaverse? According to both Joeri and Vriti, it's essentially a virtual world that we can inhabit and interact with in real-time. It's an immersive experience that enables us to connect with people and objects in a way that isn't possible in the physical world. While the concept of the Metaverse isn't new, recent advancements in technology have made it more accessible and easier to create.
But what does this mean for education? Vriti believes that the Metaverse has the potential to revolutionize the way we learn and teach. By creating virtual classrooms and spaces, students can interact with each other and with content in a way that's more engaging and memorable than traditional classrooms. It also allows for a more personalized learning experience tailored to individual student needs. This approach can provide access to education for people who may not have had it otherwise, helping bridge gaps between developed and developing countries.
Joeri agreed with Vriti, adding that the Metaverse can also provide access to experts and teachers from around the world. By creating virtual classrooms and spaces, teachers and experts can connect with students globally, providing a diverse perspective on education.
Of course, there are challenges such as infrastructure needs, technology requirements, privacy concerns, security issues that need addressing before implementing this technology fully into education systems. However, Joeri emphasized social media platforms like LinkedIn or Twitter as powerful tools for educators to connect with students while expanding their brand presence.
